Note: Product page chart lists 5 sizes (L and XL combined as 'L/XL'). Ruffwear's general size guide (https://ruffwear.com/pages/size-guide) splits L 32-36 in and XL 36-42 in and adds XXXS 9-13 in for Hi & Light only.

If your dog is between two sizes

Ruffwear publishes advice for this, so use theirs rather than a rule of thumb:

“In between sizes? Choose the larger size.”

This site treats a measurement within 1 in of the edge of a size, or inside two sizes at once, as between sizes, and shows both. Work it out with the harness calculator, or read how to measure your dog.

Popular breeds on the Ruffwear Front Range Harness chart

10 of the most popular breeds that have a published chest girth, mapped onto this chart. Only 57 of 127 breed records have a girth at all, so this is a sample, not a ranking. A breed range is a range: two dogs of the same breed can land in different sizes, so measure your dog.

How to measure for this harness

Ruffwear sizes this harness by chest girth (widest part of rib cage).

Run a soft tape around the widest part of the rib cage, just behind the front legs, and keep it snug but not tight. Two fingers should slide under it. Measure twice: a tape that has slipped an inch is the single most common reason a size is wrong.

A number off this chart is where to start, not a fitting. Measure your dog and check Ruffwear’s own current chart before you buy.
